Our first Kickstarter live chat happened last night and it was wonderful! We had a lot of fun connecting with our readers and sharing more insight into the history of The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe.
We did it! Thanks to you, friends, we have busted right through that $3k stretch goal! I’ve been dying to share this brilliant piece with you, so here goes…
You have unlocked this magical pin-up by internationally-acclaimed children’s book artist, Aristotelis Falegos! Aris’ work caught our eye on Instagram and we just knew we had to see his take on our Little Poe and his faithful guide, Irving Rat. Isn’t it glorious?!
We still have 22 days to go, so please, if you know someone who might love our Little Poe, tell them about us and direct them to our campaign page. We would be thrilled to welcome them on our incredible journey! The more the merrier!
Happy Poe Wednesday! We are counting down to the final page of Terra Somnium on Line Webtoon. It’s been a wonderful experience working with artists Louise Fitzpatrick and Federico Luchetti, and letterers Marco Della Verde and Pietro “Pitt” Rotelli, and I’ll be sad to see it end. But, as you know, it’s not really ending. Terra Somnium is merely a prequel to The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe. A prologue, if you will. The good news is that we had a fantastic time creating 2 solid chapters of Poe-related content that has been viewed by more than 8,000 people. And if it has pointed even one reader to the work of Edgar Allan Poe, it’s totally been worth it!

I’m thrilled to say that we reached the first stretch goal on our Kicksarter campaign this past weekend! We’ve already revealed what has been unlocked (unearthed?) to our supporters, but now it’s time to share the exciting news with everyone.
The talented guys of The Corpse Crew will be illustrating a brand-new story for The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe Issue 3! And, not only that, but it will feature an appearance by their cult favorite character, THE LIVING CORPSE!
If you haven’t pledged to our campaign yet, what are you waiting for? We have back issues of the first two books available if you missed them, so we’ve got you all covered. These special Kickstarter editions feature exclusive content that will never be available anywhere else and when they’re gone, they’re gone!
We will reveal the next stretch goal when we hit $3k. Will you join us and help spread the word to make it happen?
This is insanely awesome! We hit the ground running at 9AM yesterday and by 11AM our Kickstarter campaign was fully funded! Thank you to everyone who continues to support our little Poe book and to those who have just joined us: welcome! We are so pleased to have you along for the journey!
It’s 6:21AM here and I’m trying to get caffeinated as I write a new update for Kickstarter supporters that announces our fabulous first stretch goal. I am so thrilled and excited to share this marvelous news with them!
We’ve had quite a blast putting this campaign together! Getting to work with our long-time friends and fellow creatives again, The Corpse Crew, was a wonderful experience. Their interpretation of our story is the darkest thus far, but it is certainly a fitting tribute to the Master of the Macabre. They killed it! (Pun totally intended.)
To our returning supporters, thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for continuing with us on this journey! And to all who are just now joining the fellowship, welcome to the world of The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe– a nightmarish journey through the mind of the the world’s greatest fantasist. Buckle in. It’s going to be a wild ride!
Happy Poe Wednesday, friends! I just wanted to post a quick note to remind you that the Kickstarter campaign for The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe #3 will launch on Friday, February 2nd. And I’m thrilled to share with you now that the cover for this exclusive edition will be illustrated by my good friends, The Corpse Crew: Ken Haeser, Buz Hasson, and Blair Smith! I’ve known these talented gents for quite a few years and have wanted to collab with them on a project, so I am over the moon that they agreed to provide a cover for the book that is my pride and joy. And it is a real stunner!
Without further adieu, here is a teaser image just for you…
I’m also happy to say that everyone who supported our previous two Kickstarter projects should have their packages by now and the last batch of Irving Rat mini-busts have been shipped out, so you should have YOURS very, very soon!
Thanks again to all of our wonderful supporters all around the world. We appreciate each and every one of your immensely. We will have more exciting news to share with you as the Kickstarter launch draws closer, so stay tuned!
I am happy to report that Rebecca and I have nearly finished prepping the next Kickstarter campaign page and we will be ready to roll on the 2nd of February. We are hoping that everyone who has supported us thus far will continue the journey with us and also help us spread the word. We’ll be offering issues 1-3 in this campaign and we will continue offering back issues for new readers in our future campaigns. Our hope is that by word of mouth we can continue to grow our fellowship. That is why we have also made a PDF version of issue 1 available absolutely free to our amazing educators of the world (see this blog entry). My college major was Secondary English Education and I have always been passionate about passing along the great literature of the world to the next generation. I believe comics can be so much more than men and women in pajamas fighting super-powered gorillas… not that that isn’t wonderful as well. But I’ve always held up the comics medium as one of seemingly boundless potential that intermarries art and literature. That is why I’ve spent countless hours researching, reading, and consulting with scholars to ensure that I’m not merely giving readers stories that entertain, but also that motivate them to seek out and experience the great classics. That is, after all, where the “deep magic” is to be found.
The back matter for our Kickstarter Exclusive Edition third issue will illuminate the origin of our intrepid guide in Terra Somnium, Irving Rat. I am rarely asked questions by interviewers that allow me to speak about the formation of specific characters in my stories, so I am incredibly excited about sharing it with you in the pages of our book. And if you have any questions about characters, events, themes, or anything else in our story, feel free to send them on to me at info(dot)hpcomics(at)gmail(dot)com. They just may show up in a future issue!
We adore the fact that many educators have discovered our story and are not only personally enjoying the book, but they are recommending it to fellow educators for use in the classroom! Anyone who knows me is well aware of my love for educators and younger readers, so this knowledge has made my year! Special thanks to High School Social Studies teacher, Tim Smyth, for taking the time to share this wonderful public recommendation of our story. This has brought me great joy!
Are there any educators out there who would be interested in reading a PDF version of The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe #1? Simply drop us a line at info(dot)hpcomics(at)gmail(dot)com and we will be happy to send it to you free of charge along with our sincere gratitude for the amazing–and oftentimes underappreciated–work you do for the next generation. You are all heroes in my book!
Happy Poe Wednesday, friends! I’m thrilled to say that we’ve just posted a brand-new page of Terra Somnium for your viewing pleasure on Line Webtoon. You can view it by clicking the ghostly teaser image below (if you dare)!
And now the unhappy news: I’ve decided to end Terra Somnium with the completion of Chapter 2 (Page 24). While it has certainly been fun to further explore the magical land in the mind of Edgar Allan Poe, we have decided to call it quits–at least for the foreseeable future–and concentrate our efforts on The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe. The good news in all this is that Terra Somnium artist, Federico Luchetti, will be joining Andrea Messi to assist with color art on issues 5-12. While it saddens me that one chapter of Poe’s story is ending, I’m happy that Federico is joining the team to ensure that we continue to deliver our flagship title to you, our dear readers, in a timely manner. Not to say that we’ve been slacking! No, sir! But with the larger part of the story remaining to be told, adding a valuable member to the team who can contribute right away will no doubt help us in the long run.
The last bit of news is a reminder that the campaign for the Kickstarter-Exclusive Printed Edition of The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe issue #3 will launch on February 2nd. So mark your calendars, save the day, or insert the current marketing catchphrase here. The 2nd is swiftly approaching and we hope that you will help us spread the word and “bum rush” the campaign on the first day to get this issue funded. We thank YOU for making this happen with issues 1 and 2 and thank you in advance for your assistance with issue 3. With wonderful supporters like you, we have no doubt that we will make this happen (again)!
