ELEVATOR Trade Paperback Now Available For Purchase!

Friends, I am thrilled to announce that my first self-published trade paperback, ELEVATOR, is now for sale on Amazon.com! This special trade collects the entire mini-series (issues 1-4) and includes a brand-new, never-before-seen epilogue that will blow your mind! It also features a foreword from my new friend, Jeff Mudgett! Jeff is the author of the critically-acclaimed Bloodstains which chronicles his personal journey after discovering the shocking secret that he is the great-great grandson of America’s first serial killer, H.H. Holmes. He is also the co-star of History Channel’s thrilling mini-series, American Ripper, in which he and co-host Amaryllis Fox, a former CIA analyst, attempt to prove Jeff’s controversial theory that his ancestor is also the mysterious killer known as Jack the Ripper. I am certain you will find what Jeff has to say about the story quite enlightening!

New Kickstarter Launching February 2nd

2

I am happy to report that Rebecca and I have nearly finished prepping the next Kickstarter campaign page and we will be ready to roll on the 2nd of February. We are hoping that everyone who has supported us thus far will continue the journey with us and also help us spread the word. We’ll be offering issues 1-3 in this campaign and we will continue offering back issues for new readers in our future campaigns. Our hope is that by word of mouth we can continue to grow our fellowship. That is why we have also made a PDF version of issue 1 available absolutely free to our amazing educators of the world (see this blog entry). My college major was Secondary English Education and I have always been passionate about passing along the great literature of the world to the next generation. I believe comics can be so much more than men and women in pajamas fighting super-powered gorillas… not that that isn’t wonderful as well. But I’ve always held up the comics medium as one of seemingly boundless potential that intermarries art and literature. That is why I’ve spent countless hours researching, reading, and consulting with scholars to ensure that I’m not merely giving readers stories that entertain, but also that motivate them to seek out and experience the great classics. That is, after all, where the “deep magic” is to be found.

The back matter for our Kickstarter Exclusive Edition third issue will illuminate the origin of our intrepid guide in Terra Somnium, Irving Rat. I am rarely asked questions by interviewers that allow me to speak about the formation of specific characters in my stories, so I am incredibly excited about sharing it with you in the pages of our book. And if you have any questions about characters, events, themes, or anything else in our story,  feel free to send them on to me at info(dot)hpcomics(at)gmail(dot)com. They just may show up in a future issue!

(Un)Happy Poe Wednesday

Happy Poe Wednesday, friends! I’m thrilled to say that we’ve just posted a brand-new page of Terra Somnium for your viewing pleasure on Line Webtoon. You can view it by clicking the ghostly teaser image below (if you dare)!

16_teaser

And now the unhappy news: I’ve decided to end Terra Somnium with the completion of Chapter 2 (Page 24). While it has certainly been fun to further explore the magical land in the mind of Edgar Allan Poe, we have decided to call it quits–at least for the foreseeable future–and concentrate our efforts on The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe. The good news in all this is that Terra Somnium artist, Federico Luchetti, will be joining Andrea Messi to assist with color art on issues 5-12. While it saddens me that one chapter of Poe’s story is ending, I’m happy that Federico is joining the team to ensure that we continue to deliver our flagship title to you, our dear readers, in a timely manner. Not to say that we’ve been slacking! No, sir! But with the larger part of the story remaining to be told, adding a valuable member to the team who can contribute right away will no doubt help us in the long run.

The last bit of news is a reminder that the campaign for the Kickstarter-Exclusive Printed Edition of The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe issue #3 will launch on February 2nd. So mark your calendars, save the day, or insert the current marketing catchphrase here.  The 2nd is swiftly approaching and we hope that you will help us spread the word and “bum rush” the campaign on the first day to get this issue funded. We thank YOU for making this happen with issues 1 and 2 and thank you in advance for your assistance with issue 3. With wonderful supporters like you, we have no doubt that we will make this happen (again)!

Sincerely yours,

Dwight & Rebecca

Poe Takes Over ComiXology!

Okay… maybe not.

But The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe issue 4, released on the last New Comic Book Day of 2017, has been featured on ComiXology’s main page! We are so thrilled and thankful! You can now read the entire first chapter of our epic tale by downloading issues 1-4 on ComiXology or Amazon Kindle, so we are chuffed to pieces about that!

This week we received a wonderful note from the mom of a reluctant reader gushing about how much her son loves our book and can’t wait for the next issue. “I’ve never seen him so excited about reading,” she said.  That, my friends, is what it’s all about!

One last note: please don’t forget to vote for The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe for Comic Book of the Year on BareBones Entertainment’s site! Voting is only open until January 5th, so please do that now if you haven’t already done so. It only takes a few seconds and you can vote anonymously, so it’s pretty painless. There is one vote allowed per IP, so make it count!

Happy New Year!

Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe Fan Art!

Hi, Friends!

Our Kickstarter campaign for the exclusive printed edition for The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe #1 is going strong thanks to you! We met our initial funding goal in the first 30 hours (!), but now we are working towards unlocking the next stretch goal of 3k so we will be able to include Dave Youkovich’s incredible 3-page story. If you have already pledged, we thank you so very much– if not, please consider pledging so we will be able to include this fantastic additional content. I’ll be sharing some art from the story in the coming days and let me tell you…it is magnificent. Definitely something you’ll want to see in the book! Dave illustrated a cover for issue 3, so he’s no stranger to this property. The cover image hasn’t been released yet, but here’s a little teaser just for you…

One of the most delightful things that can happen to a creator, in my opinion, is to see your beloved characters come to life through fan art. The page I have included here is from talented artist, Pablo Fernandez! I love it!

Something tells me Pablo and I will be collaborating very soon…

An Edgar Allan Poe Double Shot

As the title of this entry states, we have TWO Poe-related updates for you today!

boop

First, you can check out brand new Terra Somnium by artist, Louise Fitzpatrick, and yours truly, RIGHT HERE! We are now 16 pages into the first chapter of the prequel to The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe, and things are getting weirder by the second!

And please, when you check it out, like it, subscribe, and share it with your friends. I can’t tell you how invaluable this is to the folks who lovingly produce webcomics.

Second, The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe #2 is now available for purchase HERE ON COMIXOLOGY and HERE ON AMAZON KINDLE!

If you’ve read issue 1, you can see just how different it is from the graphic novel that was published by Image Comics. The reviews we’ve received confirm my long-held opinion that it needed to be revised both script-wise and artistically. The addition of artists, Luis Czerniawski and Andrea Messi, bring so much life and energy to these characters and environs–wouldn’t you agree?

In other news, we are wrapping up production on ELEVATOR #3 and we will soon send it to ComiXology and Amazon Kindle. Elevator artist, Randy Valiente, has really knocked this series out of the ballpark. Issue 3 is a real gut punch, so you’ve been warned!

I’m Bringing The 80’s Back!

We took some time off in the middle of a busy week to catch the U2 Joshua Tree show in Tampa on June 14th. Rebecca goes back a long way with these guys, from her time living in Dublin, Ireland, through her years of working in the music biz and hanging out with the band–which is another blog post in itself, one I have been trying to get her to write for ages!

The show was phenomenal in every way! I’ve always been told that U2 is a band you have to experience live, and they were right. This was my first time seeing the band I’ve loved since I first saw the video to “Sunday Bloody Sunday” on MTV when I was a teen, so it was really a special experience. Rebecca and I danced and sang along as the band played a grueling set that lasted more than 2 hours. We were in the pit, so we could see the sweat dripping from Bono’s hands. At one point Bono remarked that it was “Muy caliente!” And it was. Hot and humid and Bono was–well–classic Bono, dancing and gesticulating through the Joshua Tree set (and especially during the encore). We were spent after the show, so I’m sure the band was as well! We are now all much older. This isn’t the ’80s, after all!

This experience was made even more awesome because I’m working on a comic that takes place in the 80’s–a time Rebecca and I feel very nostalgic for as pop culture and music was so unique, fresh, and fun. I am having a blast writing the story and I’m sure you are really going to really dig it. Especially if you are a child of the 80’s.
